Workshop Theme

This workshop brings together a multidisciplinary team of scholars and artists from Brazil, Colombia and Canada to think through the meanings and potentialities of embodied oral performance within the political and aesthetic context of the Americas. Our team includes performance artists as well as specialists in Disability Studies, Indigenous Studies, Literature, Museum Studies and Trauma Studies. Building upon our first meeting in Bogota, Colombia in December 2015, this meeting will enable team members to work toward the goal of creating a collaborative publication that explores the value and challenges of oral expression in relation to questions of embodiment, trauma, memorialization and emplacement.

Funders

This collaboration is an initiative of the Canadian Consortium on Performance and Politics in the Americas, with support from the Centre for Creative Writing and Oral Culture at the University of Manitoba.
