Warren is happy to announce the publication of the newest book in the First Voices, First Texts series at the University of Manitoba Press. From the Tundra to the Trenches: The World through the Eyes of an Inuit Soldier is the extraordinary memoir of Eddy Weetaltuk, an Inuk who escaped colonially-imposed strictures on Indigenous people by changing his name and joining the Canadian military to fight in the Korean war. Weetaltuk's narrative is a lost classic of Indigenous literature, written in 1974 but not published in English until now. This book, edited with a detailed historical context by Thibault Martin, is a fascinating document of mid-twentieth-century Indigenous identity, and also an enthralling story of transformations.
